Y.O.D has been putting out some tasty one-offs lately. Late last month, he dropped the video for the lyrically dense ‘Nutty Bars‘ and only two weeks later has followed it up with the DJ Skizz backed ‘Porno for Pyros’; a track about the slow decline of rock music from the days of Lollapalooza and prominent punk culture into the banal, self-involved sounds of U2, Incubus and Coldplay. If Droog’s wordplay doesn’t rope you in on most of his bars, his strong opinions on music backed up with citations in rhyme should be enough to sell you.

It’s interesting to hear a rapper weigh in on another genre of music with a fair level of authority and the veiled positivity that comes from wanting that good, old-fashioned rock sound back is especially resonant when it comes from the mouth of someone whose vocal styles are nestled in that iconic late-90’s Queens flow. Droog’s DeathRow Tull EP is due to drop early 2015 but it’s unlikely to feature ‘Porno for Pyros’ so tune into it above!
