Weekly updates

With this past week seeing OVO Sound Radio celebrating its one year anniversary, the 24th episode of the highly popular Apple Music exclusive show saw a trio—made up of OVO signed artist Roy Woods, OVO’s go-to producer Noah “40” Shebib and OVO co-founder Oliver El-Khatib—overseeing the episode’s direction. With such a momentous occasion for the crew to celebrate, of course the latest episode of OVO Sound Radio saw some hot new releases pop up in the mix.

01. Roy Woods - 'Waking At Dawn'

OVO Sound’s youngest member Roy Woods took the helm of the latest episode of OVO Sound Radio to officially premiere his debut studio album in its entirety. Highly anticipated since the successful release of the 20-year old’s 2015 EP Exis, the latest release Waking At Dawn comes as another in a string of releases from OVO Sound in 2016 and further affirms Woods’ place among the label’s hugely talented roster.

A moody, confident 10-song R&B effort, Waking At Dawn marks yet another successful album release for the powerhouse label, and the rising talent of Roy Woods.

02. PARTYNEXTDOOR - 'Like Dat' ft. Lil Wayne & Jeremih

OVO’s PARTYNEXTDOOR links up with superstar talents Jeremih and Lil Wayne for latest release ‘Like Dat’. Jeremih originally teased working with PND back in April with an Instagram post, before revealing during an appearance on REAL 92.3 LA that he and PND were planning a joint album for release later in the year.

It’s unclear where this freshly released collaboration track will end up, whether on the teased Jeremih x PARTYNEXTDOOR album or on PND’s own upcoming solo album P3, but it certainly doesn’t take away from being one of the hottest releases to hit the OVO Sound airwaves in recent memory.

03. Jazz Cartier - 'Lil Wayne'

Though not signed to OVO Sound, Toronto-based Jazz Cartier saw his latest track ‘Lil Wayne’ debuted by Oliver El-Khatib on the latest episode of OVO Sound Radio. A hard-hitting tribute track in honour of the New Orleans hip-hop icon Lil Wayne, Jazz Cartier’s latest release sees him flexing exactly why he’s one of the most revered Toronto artists not releasing music from under the OVO umbrella. With Cartier’s critically acclaimed album Hotel Paranoia having seen its release earlier in the year, ‘Lil Wayne’ is further proof of both Jazz Cartier’s talent and OVO Sound’s keen ear for what’s hot in music.

04. Mike Zombie - 'Humble Genius'

Though not premiered on OVO Sound Radio’s latest episode, OVO-signed producer Mike Zombie (aka “Zombie on the Track” of Drake’s ‘Started from the Bottom’ fame) unleashed his latest album on the world over the weekend. Having shifted his focus recently from production to more solo, lyrical efforts, Mike Zombie’s Humble Genius is a worthy addition to the pantheon of OVO releases – even if, technically, this may not be an OVO release. Such is life as an OVO signee, regardless of whether you’re a producer or a solo artist, you’re an OVO talent.

And is there any higher honour in music right now?
