Let’s throw up our hands in rejoice and give a massive thanks to the festival gods this morning, because Pharrell Williams is coming to Australia.

The man known as Skateboard P has been announced as a headliner to Future Music Festival by festival organisers today. Pharrell will sit atop a lineup that suddenly got a whole lot more exciting, playing Future’s Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide dates. He has a small prior commitment (the Oscars) during the Perth and Brisbane dates, but will treat fans in those cities to all-ages sideshows. Those with Future tickets for Perth and Brisbane will be offered an exclusive discount to the sideshows via email.

Williams had this to say of the announcement:

“Australia is such a fun place for music – I’ve always had amazing experiences there. Looking forward to seeing all the fans come out for Future Music Festival – can’t wait to perform and show them my gratitude.”

If the thought of Pharrell gracing our shores doesn’t excite you enough, let me give you a breakdown on why you should care. Firstly, he’s one of the busiest dudes in music, as a singer, rapper and producer both solo and in projects like The Neptunes and N*E*R*D. He’s behind two of last year’s biggest singles – Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines and Daft Punk’s Get Lucky. His own new single Happy is number one and Oscar nominated, and came with a world first 24-hour music video featuring Jamie Foxx, Magic Johnson, Steve Carrell and Jimmy Kimmel. He’s headlining Coachella, and he’s working on a second solo album as a follow-up to his 2006 debut In My Mind.

He’s also your millennial equivalent of a renaissance man, with projects spanning into other creative territories. Entrepreneur and fashion designer, he’s designed jewellery for Louis Vuitton, and has his own Billionaire Boys Club/Icecream label too. He’s also a partner in a textile firm that develops environmentally sustainable fabrics. That’s nice. And to top it all off the guy is 40, but seemingly ageless.

So Australia, you have just five chances in which to see Pharrell Williams onstage, in real life. Use them well. Check out the dates for Pharrell’s tour dates below.
