Premiere: MXXWLL Spreads California Love on ‘Light Turn Green’

The Sydney producer links with LA artists John Givez and Rae Khalil on this laid back new joint.

Fresh off the back of producing Ty Dolla Sign and J.Cole’s loved-up bop ‘Purple Emoji‘, Sydney-born producer MXXWLL has returned with a new track of his own ‘Light Turn Green’. Drawing inspiration from the G-Funk haze of LA, OG West Coast hip-hop and a touch of J Dilla, MXXWLL has enlisted the help of Los Angeles artists John Givez and Rae Khalil (The latter of which you may have spotted on Netflix’s Rhythm & Flow) as well as some extra spice from New York producer Carrtoons.

Shot around the notorious Crenshaw and View Park areas, the video follows the MXXWLL crew on a day in the life, cruising on streets of LA. Speaking to MXXWLL about putting the visual together, he told us “We were living a block away from Crenshaw and Slauson at the time so most of the music video is filmed. The lines of palm trees are a pretty iconic view around there, and it felt humbling to be filming in the same area where greats like Nipsey Hussle and Battlecat came up.”

MXXWLL’s forthcoming album Sheeesh is set to drop May 22 and is host to a huge list of artists including the honeyed vocals of Melbourne’s Kaiit, platinum-selling artist Aloe Blacc and Oakland’s Guapdad 4000.
