Premiere: Nerve Gets His Hands Dirty on ‘Hopscotch’

Brisbane's golden child of grime shows his pop side with his latest single and greazy new visual.

Popping off in the Australian grime and hip-hop scenes, Brisbane MC Nerve has secured his place as one of the best new spitters in the country. His 2019 track ‘Sunday Roast‘ saw him reach the #4 most played artist on Triple j Unearthed and he’s about to tour Australia and New Zealand with Manchester superstar Aitch after appearing on the official remix for his #1 UK single ‘Taste’ alongside Hooligan Hefs.

Despite his roots in the gritty underground, ‘Hopscotch’ sees Nerve flex his pop prowess, both as a rapper and producer. “I woke up, made this beat and wrote the entire track in about 2 hours,” Nerve says. “Normally, that’s how most of the best stuff happens cause I just catch a certain energy and smash it all out. I had it recorded by the afternoon, and I knew it was gonna be the next single.”

Continuing the feel-good aura created by ‘Hopscotch’, the accompanying video (filmed by A/V Club) was filmed in Nerve’s sunny hometown of Brisbane, creating a fantasyland where he’s joined by his tightly-knit crew No1 Network, as well as sports cars, pool parties and a 10-year-old version of himself.
