PREMIERE: Phi11a Drops a Shiny New Visual for ‘I Try’

The Sydney rapper returns with a mellow heater and glittery new music video.

Sydney’s Phi11a has had a massive run in 2020 and shows no sign of slowing down as the new year quickly approaches. Phi11a started out the year his giant track ‘Witness’ featuring US rapper Trippie Redd and followed it up with ‘Dirty Dancer’, a track produced by none other than certified OG and iconic producer Scott Storch. Phi11a’s rapidly growing audience and work ethic have also earned him a spot as one of our 2020 Acclaim All-Stars finalists in the People’s Champ category. (Head here to read his finalist profile and interview).

Today, the inked-up Def Jam AUNZ signee returns unassisted, changing lanes with a much more mellow and introspective track called ‘I Try’, and a visual that sees the young artist covered head-to-toe in gold glitter. Linking up with Sydney based Director Madeleine Purdy, who has also directed videos for Flowerkid, Gordi and Body Type, and lead the creative vision for the video. Speaking to Madeliene on the video she explained: “In our video we wanted to show a world of extremes – fire, water, sand, sky, reflections cracked and flowers burnt. From Phi11a’s songwriting, through to my team’s treatment and production, and then finally through the eyes of a different editor/animator on the other side of the world. I think the video has lived out the journey of the character that Phi11a embodies in the song – life mirroring art and back again.”
