Legendary photographer Jamal Shabazz will be honoured by the Hardhitta Gallery in Cologne this month, in the exhibition entitled ‘Jamel Shabazz: Reflections From the 80s’, documenting the evolution of the New York City hip-hop style.

After picking up his first camera when he was just 15, Shabazz set a goal to contribute to the preservation of world history and culture. And that he has, having already curated over two dozen solo exhibitions. Shabazz describes his latest gallery contribution, in a recent press release, as being broader than just capturing ‘urban culture and hip hop in the African American community.’ ‘It’s a universal body of work about compassion, empathy, bringing out the beauty within people and the love that bridges the gaps between us.’

You can catch a glimpse of the exhibition in our gallery above.
