Sampa The Great’s BEE9 experience

An intimate, upfront weekend showed us why Sampa is truly great

2017 saw Sampa The Great rise to new heights in her career. Coming off a support slot for Joey Badass’ European Tour, as well as rave reviews for her mixtape Birds and The BEE9, Sampa broadened the reach of Australian hip-hop all while showcasing the vast, multicultural talents this country has to offer.

This past week, Sampa’s undeniable grind culminated in two special events in Melbourne and Sydney. The BEE9 Experience not only celebrated the impact of her last mixtape but the power of creativity overall. Sampa enlisted Kaiit and Dreaming Now for her April 19th date at Sydney’s The Basement, while Milian & Imbi Ring joined her at the Night Cat in Melbourne on the 21st of April, with all acts adding their fresh, unique sounds to the equation.

Both nights were filled with an intense energy, accompanied by the vast, varying sounds of music in Australia. The passion that resonated from the performances of Sampa and her contemporaries were enhanced by the supporting visuals that paid ode to her roots. Sampa’s ambitious, visionary-like attitude packed out each venue on their respective nights and resulted in two nights of love and unity.

The BEE9 Experience showed that even as Sampa’s name grows all around the world, that she values intimacy. Her visually pleasing, full-circle approach to creativity throughout these two nights showed that she’s more than a rapper – she’s one of Australia’s promising visionaries.

Be sure to look out for Sampa The Great at Groovin The Moo starting in Adelaide on the 27th of April, and ending in Bunbury on the 12th of May. Click here for dates.
