It’s been just over a month since our last Schoolboy Q video. With ‘By Any Means’, ‘Tookie Knows II’ and ‘Black thoughts’ setting a tense tone, the clip for ‘Overtime’ comes as quite a refresher. Flashback five months to ‘Groovy Tony’ and it’s a pretty big switch up to say the least.
For one thing, ‘Overtime’ is a lot more colourful. Colour-changing tie-dye tees, booty shorts, and bikinis make for a clip that is decidedly brighter than any of the other’s we’ve copped so far. For another thing, we see Q without a hat… well, you kind of have to see it to believe it.
In fact, it makes sense this clip stands out. Q recently said that ‘Overtime’ was added to the LP at the request of the label, even though he thought it didn’t fit in with the rest of the piece. “It’s a dope song,” he said recently at a listening party. “I wrote the song, I just thought it didn’t fit my album… I also didn’t want ‘Studio’ on my album. I also didn’t want ‘Man Of The Year’ to be one of my singles. Both of them went Platinum. I don’t know every fucking thing.”
Set in front of office buildings with a girl in booty shorts who definitely knows what she’s doing, we cut to a bikini-barber shop in a playground. Basically, Q’s living the dream. We’ve got Miguel on a mountaintop, Justine Skye in a field of balloons—in other words, the most lit Pantone exposé to hit YouTube. Check it out above and hold out to the end because it definitely finishes with a “bang”.
