Massachusetts-based Jon “Manipulator” Montumer has just released his latest beat-tape Dusted the F#%K Out – ‘strictly for people who enjoy that raw, dusty shit’. Full of samples from his extensive vinyl collection, his production manipulates vintage kicks, snares and cymbals all intertwined with both soul and rap vocals resulting into a no holds barred 10-track boom bap instrumental Ep.

My name is… DJ Manipulator

I live in… The Badlands, Massachusetts

My EP is called… Dusted The F#%k Out Vol. 1

Some of the things that inspired it are… Old records, beats, some of my favorite producers which include Dilla, DJ Premier, Madlib, Large Pro, Jnerio Jarel, David Axelrod, Quincy Jones, the list goes on forever…

It’s cover art looks like… Well the cover is based off of Cal Tjader’s Hip Vibrations.  I loved the cover so much that I wanted to flip it so I asked my homie Evilldewer (who is an amazing producer himself and a part of my crew, The Beat Tape Bullies) and he did an amazing job.

My favourite track is… It’s a toss up between M.O.P. Adlibs or Sounds of Love but I like ’em all though.

The person I can imagine listening to it is… Someone who’s a fan of good music in general. I tried to put something on the beat tape that someone with good taste in all genres of music would appreciate.

My favourite mixtape would include… Nothing but prog-rock from the 60’s and 70’s.

When I’m not making music I… I’m thinking of the next move to make. If you’re trying to do this shit on your own and taking it seriously there’s no taking breaks. I’ve got to maintain the website, edit videos. If I’m not making music I’m always working on something else.

The last thing I downloaded was… House Shoe’s Let It Go, it’s a great album and my homie Self Says is on it… and I bought that shit too. I support the artists I listen to.

The next project I’m working on is… I’ve got several things in the works for the rest of the year but I don’t want to go into too much detail. You never know what’ll happen. Plans change all the time but coming up next should be a few singles and after that an all vinyl mixtape.
