Weekly updates

Like most of our dogged generation Ryan Hemsworth grew up playing video games and skateboarding. At 22 years old the terms ‘up-and-coming’ and ‘emerging’ apply, but Ryan’s music is already known for its own style: tilted hip-hop that makes you want to hit the dance floor and have an introspective headphone experience at the same time. His remixes and bootlegs have been circling blogs and YouTube for some time (listen to two of our favourites below!) and after producing the Mishka Class of 2012 Hyperbolic Chamber Music mixtape he is releasing his latest EP Last Words that features remixes from the likes of Shlohmo and Supreme Cuts. If the preview track Charly Wingate is anything to go by – it’s going to be incredible. We catch up with him for some SMALL TALK, before Last Words drops through WEDIDIT tomorrow.

My name is… Ryan Hemsworth

I live in… The internet. And Ottawa, Ontario.

My EP is called… Last Words

Some of the things that inspired it are… Dirty rap songs, ambient music, video games, the Akira soundtrack, Lil B The BasedGod, Mannie Fresh production, Resident Evil and orange pekoe tea.

It’s cover art looks like… A low budget LucasArts point-and-click computer game from 1997 adapting a children’s book aimed at moody 6 – 8 year olds.

My favourite track is… Slurring

The person I can imagine listening to it is… My friends. Maybe some other people would be cool too.

My favourite mixtape would include… A lot of Three 6 Mafia and SNES soundtracks.

When I’m not making music I… make cookies.

The last thing I downloaded was… Every season of Adventure Time.

The next project I’m working on is… Going to be weirder and better.
