I am obsessed with koalas. They’re adorable, they keep to themselves, and, unlike cats, they don’t constantly appear on my Instagram feed as a crutch for lonely girls. They eat, they sleep, they fuck – they’re about that life. So when a new producer under the alias ‘Y2KOALA’ appeared on my SoundCloud stream, it was inevitable that I would become an IRL version of that surprised Koala meme. Two words, one tag: ‘AUSSIE CLUB’, spawned from the tongue-in-cheek umbrella genre ‘EUCALYPTUS DANCE MUSIC’.

‘♡ STAYYY FLYYY ♡’ is the debut track from this anonymous, allegedly Australian producer. (Nest HQ speculate that he’s an alter ego of Wave Racer.) The mystery beatmaker’s already been endorsed by DJ Hoodboi and Falcons, along with a rapidly growing collection of SoundCloud fans. There has been nothing shy of full support for Y2KOALA here at the ACCLAIM magazine HQ, where we have each simultaneously racked up a significant amount of plays of the debut track. Just call it patriotism – we are are claiming this mixmaster marsupial as one of our own. Have a listen below:
