Tkay Maidza takes shots at the haters on Killer Mike-assisted track ‘Carry On’

The Aussie artist gets the ultimate co-sign from one of her heroes

Tkay Maidza is basically killing it. The Zimbabwean-born, Australian singer and rapper is fast proving herself to be a serious force to be reckoned with, dropping the fresh new single, ‘Carry on’ and announcing her debut album’s eminent release.

This addictively upbeat track premiered on Triple J and features none other than American hip-hop recording artist, all-round legend, and outspoken Tkay fan, Killer Mike.

Tkay told Triple J, “[Carry On] is kind of about me going through troubles and he acts as a big brother, which is really cool… I just meet a lot of new people and you just see a lot more things, which can be really cool but at the same time it’s really overwhelming… so, the song is me saying ‘there’s so many people coming round trying to steal something from me but I just want to have fun’.”

The familiar (and dope) voice of Killer Mike adds another layer of awesome to this track. This half of Run the Jewels shouted out Tkay at a talk at MIT last year, before they even collaborated.

Killer Mike sung her praises way back when, saying, “I remember thinking to myself, I’m in Australia, I’ve been here for two weeks, and not one person talked about Iggy Azalea – and I’m at a music festival! Not one person! The person that all the Australians were talking about was a black girl! Her name was Tkay something, I saw her perform, she rocked the house!”

The new Queen of Australian hip-hop is touring Australia and New Zealand in October/November with tickets available via Oztix. And if that still isn’t enough Tkay for you, her album TKAY is now available for pre-order.
