Next month, a host of soul, jazz and hip-hop legends descend upon our East Coast for the inaugural Soulfest: Australia’s first ever neo-soul, jazz and hip-hop festival. Among the festival’s headliners is Brooklyn soul monarch Maxwell, and he’s just announced a sideshow on Tuesday October 21 at The Enmore Theatre in Sydney.

From his 1996 debut release, Urban Hang Suite to 2009’s BLACKsummers’ Night, Maxwell has achieved multi-platinum status through his records and won the hearts of millions with his live performances.

Joining the seasoned performer will be soul and blues songstress Leela James who exploded on to the scene with her 2005 debut album, A Change Gonne Come and featured on Pete Rock’s Soul Survivor II.  The LA native has a style and flow often compared to that of old school godfathers like Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. Like Maxwell, James will be making her Australian debut this October.

Tickets go on sale September 11 via Ticketek.
