Continuing on with the same sombre tone as previous music video ‘Chum‘, the latest video and single from Earl Sweatshirt is also directed by Los Angeles director Hiro Murai. Featuring Vince Staples and Casey Veggies, ‘Hive’ leaves the childhood themes alone focusing less on the past and more on the present, taking a look at the transition to adulthood and the problems that come with that.

Tunnel vision in it’s aesthetic, stoner-like poetic prose, and featuring more of those menacing masks has ‘Hive’ taking a darker turn over minimalist beats allowing Sweatshirt to get his Gil Scott-Heron prose on. Inspired by a King Krule video, this shows more what Earl Sweatshirt is about as a solo artist.
