Watch: Episode 4 of J. Cole’s “Road to Homecoming” doco

The rapper takes Madison Square Garden, chills backstage, and gets a massage

The fourth instalment of rapper J. Cole’s concert film/documentary Road to Homecoming has just been released online. The HBO original series documents the surprise release of Cole’s third LP 2014 Forrest Hill Drive at the end of 2014 (which happened without any singles, video clips, or marketing plan), as well his subsequent tour: The Forrest Hills Drive Tour. Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the series have already dropped and are waiting on HBO’s Vimeo site for you to binge watch if you haven’t yet seen them and need to catch up. Part 4 sees Cole performing for a huge and excited crowd at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden, and the rapper is clearly awestruck by the venue he is in. The episode also focuses a lot on a lot of the logistical side of the tour: the importance of lighting, sound and set design are all explained. There’s also just a lot of really cool behind-the-scenes footage of Cole chilling and making music with pals backstage, as well as a cute scene of the rapper looking 100% blissed-out after a massage. You can check the entire video in the gallery above.
