The man everyone loves to hate has been humanised in one of the best Kanye West documentaries to come out. Titled Where The Lonely Kids Go When The Bell Rings, unofficial and fan-made by James Workman. It starts in 1998, with polo-wearing College Dropout Kanye’s “pursuit of awesomeness” through to sharp suits, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and everything in between.

Wanting to focus on the “outsider, the misunderstood genius” it features a lot of behind-the-scenes footage, live performances and interviews which reminds the viewer what Kanye the mortal, not Kanye the persona is all about. Hearing Kanye claim he wants world leaders at his funeral and in the same 45 minutes that he’s past the culture of ego feels like an oxymoron but makes sense. A job extremely well done, this documentary touches on what it’s like to have a media target on your back and why some people need to give credit where credits due. Well worth a watch.
