Spit Gold Under an Empire is a new documentary that trudges through the new streets of underground hip-hop in New York City. Its trailer features clips and words from acts like The Underachievers, Angel Haze and Pro Era MCs CJ Fly and Kirk Knight. The young wordmiths all discuss what it’s like coming up in NYC, how the scene has shifted, and how they’re navigating their way through the industry.

Straight up; the film looks bannanas! Though, that should come as no surprise given Emily Kai Bock directed it. She also directed Grimes’ electro-glam video for ‘Oblivion‘ and is definitely a name I’ve taken note of.
