Today marks the reveal of the first official imagery of adidas Originals’ brand new silhouette, the ZX Flux. Debuting at a press event in Berlin today, the model’s foundations are rooted in the ZX8000, a sneaker first released by adidas Originals back in 1989.

The ZX8000 was revolutionary for its time and its game-changing technologies and progressive silhouette and colourways made it a favourite with athletes and trendsetters alike. The implementation of SoftCell technology in the heel and a brand new Torsion system split sole was at the height of innovation at the time and whilst the ZX8000 is now 25 years old, its clean aesthetic has ensured its relevance has always been maintained.

Today’s reveal of the ZX Flux can be seen as a reaffirmation of this legacy. Rather than adding extra flourishes and components to the ZX8000, adidas Originals’ designers have taken a back-to-basics approach to the ZX’s latest incarnation. The result? A shoe that is at once classic but innovative. A design stripped back to its very essentials, so that the ZX8000’s original DNA is highlighted more clearly than ever before.

The ZX Flux launches this SS2014. Scroll through the gallery of images above and watch the video at the end. There will be more info on the release and the ZX Flux’s launch event recap to come, so stay tuned, as this is sure to be a silhouette you’ll be hearing more about over the coming weeks.
