Well, you’ve probably started to see the iconic green and white posters popping up here and there across the country…. But if you think legendary tennis player Stan Smith’s face is staring you down with a smile because of the upcoming Aus Open, you’re wrong. The campaign roll out is in honour of the return of adidas Originals’ ‘Stan Smith’ signature shoe. The classic kick will be hitting shelves locally next week, but you’ll need to get in quick!
Wednesday, Jan 15th will see the white and green sneaker return to shelves via Originals stores, adidas.com and a very select range of boutiques: Up There in Melbourne, Espionage in Sydney and Highs and Lows in Perth.
For the uninitiated, Stan Smith is a celebrated US tennis player. His namesake shoe was there when he won titles in major tournaments, such as the U.S. Open in 1968 and the Australian Open in 1970. But the Stan Smith shoe’s legacy didn’t end when they player left the court; the shoe has evolved to become a style icon, revered for its clean, classic aesthetic by designers and collectors alike.
Take a look at the beautifully streamlined shoe in the gallery above and check Jan 15th off in your diary (what? You haven’t bought one yet… same) as the release is strictly limited. Stay tuned for more info on a special Stan Smith launch coming up next week and for more info on the shoe’s legacy, peep the campaign video featuring the man himself, as well as a bunch of other talents such as Will Arnett, Andy Murray and Sky Ferreira.
