Dior Homme enlists artist Toru Kamei for a beautifully dark collection

For once, florals for Spring are actually groundbreaking

Posted by

When Meryl Streep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada criticised ‘florals for Spring’, we all laughed—but the latest drop from Dior Homme has us eating our words.

Dior Homme’s Kris Van Assche has enlisted artist Toru Kamei to bring a new level of creativity to the pieces for their SS17 collection. Kamei’s work is known to venture into the mythological realm, drawing on surrealist techniques and the 17th-century Vanitas style. Using flowers as motifs of life, versus skulls as apparent death, Kamei is the prime candidate for Dior Homme as the brand often combines a collection of styles that cross genres. The latest drop sees to patches of still life flowers stitched onto crisp blazers and paintings on shoes, bags and more for a sleek floral collection.

Balancing striking images with dark fabrics, the line is pretty much what My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy would look like if it were clothes. Titled ‘PAST TO FUTURE,’ the pieces must truly be seen to be believed. You can have a look in the gallery above for a preview of the line along with some of Kamei’s other works, and peep the promo video below.
