Denim label G-Star RAW are starting 2017 with strong intentions, showcasing their latest Raw Research capsule collection in Paris. The collection is the first under new Executive Creative Director Aitor Throup and highlights a fresh innovation in denim design – the concept of 3D denim via their ‘Motac’ collection. This ergonomic approach to design has resulted in a range of apparel that is forward-thinking in its aesthetic and functionality but also draws upon some historic inspiration.
The Dutch tulip plays a significant role in the creation of Raw Research II – it is central to one of Hans Bollongier’s iconic still lifes and is a Dutch symbol of wealth and status – with the label’s new creative head putting his own spin on the traditional notions of the distinct flower.
Unveiled to attendees at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the collection showcases jeans, outerwear, and accessories in bold monochrome. And while these pieces are currently exclusively available at selected G-Star RAW retailers, the design technology will eventually be far more wide-reaching. To Throup, this is the future of denim.
