By now, you’re probably already pretty familiar with the skate brand Palace. Born in London, the label creates some of the most highly sought after collections on their own, let alone the impressive collaborations they’ve managed to score over the years. They’re instantly recognisable and have received support from everyone from the teens skating your local park, to the celebrities topping music charts internationally. And North West. So how did the brand achieve these heights? The Guardian chatted with founder Lev Tanju about his beloved label to find out.

The ultimate chiller, Lev stays true to his own personal inspirations and it seems like that’s paying off, with Palace drops selling out almost instantly, with little effort from the labels’ part. You can check out some of the key quotes from his interview below and be sure to read the full article here.

01. Lev always wanted the Palace logo to be as visible as possible... literally

“I told the factory: ‘Can you make the logo as big as it will go on the back of the shirt, as far as the seam will allow …’ I’m quite a garish person, I think.”

02. They don't give away their merch to celebs

“We make it and that’s it. If you want it, come to the shop. If someone really nice phones up [for a T-shirt], then of course. If Elton John rang up, I would be like, ‘Sure Elton John.’”

03. Yes, your dad is allowed to wear it as well

“Dads come in and buy shit, it makes me so happy. We have sons and dads coming in. I’m like ‘yes’ – because dad wants to be cool at work.”

04. On those sometimes random af online product descriptions

“I sit in front the TV with a takeaway and type on my iPhone absolute nonsense in bullet points and people find it funny.”

05. Lev satisfies customers' desires (and his short attention span) with limited runs

“There’s a constant flow of little things. People come in to the shop, grab it and go, and then are like: ‘I didn’t get a particular T-shirt, why didn’t I get it?’ It’s quite fun.”
