Last night saw the first ever YouTube Music Awards streamed live on, ermm, YouTube. Pitched as a ‘new era of awards show’, it definitely didn’t hesitate to do things a little differently.

Although there were only six categories, the long enough 90-minute show managed to provide a plethora of entertainment. Things went from the usual nominee-winner-speech order to a weird influx of unscripted events including Spike Jonze filming M.I.A tripping out in a tunnel, several awkward technical difficulties and Taylor Swift getting dissed (again).

The winners, which turned out to be the less important feature of the event, included Macklemore & Ryan Lewis who took the Youtube Breakthrough award, whilst Eminem won Artist of the Year 2013. Several credible performances from the Slim Shady, Tyler, the Creator and Arcade Fire made the show a little more bearable. You can check out the full Eminem performance above.

Whilst it’s not currently available, the people at YouTube will be sure to trickle the full footage of the show soon, as well as the on-the-night recorded music videos.
