Fear of a Brown Planet’s Aamer Rahman imagines Kendrick’s response to that Macklemore text message

"I know I got robbed. But that's cool, that's what you people do."

There has been no shortage of discussion around Macklemore‘s contentious Best Rap Album Grammy, beating out Kendrick Lamar‘s crowd favourite, the unimpeachable good kid, m.A.A.d city. This was seen as a robbery by many with an interest in rap, including Macklemore himself. He shared this sentiment in a fairly magnanimous text message to Kendrick, opening with “You got robbed.” But, then, he also undermined the selflessness of the gesture a little by sharing a screen grab of it on his Instagram in an act of humblebraggadocio.

Melbourne stand-up comic Aamer Rahman, one half of duo Fear of a Brown Planet, brings us an artist’s recreation of how the conversation may have continued. Who knows – maybe this very message is sitting as a draft on Kendrick’s phone.

Ah yes Aamer. The man who rails against the man while at the same time being managed and produced by Live Nation. The mega corporation that owns Ticketmaster and makes it’s money ripping off artists. He’s the embodiment of the outrage industry fully supported and backed by a corporation that realises where there’s money to be made.

Err… his shows are sometimes produced by Live Nation, how can he be ‘backed by a major corporation’ and ‘ripped off’ as an artist at the same time? And Live Nation does not own Ticketmaster.

Ticketmaster and Live Nation merged. He is not only produced by Live Nation he is managed by them. Enjoy your convenience fee.
