By this point, it’s widely and reasonably accepted that Kanye‘s divisive traits are more than outweighed by his artistic output. Even if only objectively, the guy is considered ‘good’, right? Generally, I place anyone who speaks of Kanye solely with a slew of pejoratives in the category of those who let Fox Media arbitrate their opinions. You know, the kind of people you can find in the aisles of your local JB Hi Fi seriously considering buying an Eagles box-set in 2015.

Neil Lonsdale is one of those people. The education worker who admits to have never gone to Glastonbury in his life started the petition when he found out that his ‘bury would be popped by Kanye. It began as a joke but he’d be more than happy if the petition exiled Kanye.

“Don’t get me wrong, if it works, then I’ll be more than happy. I’m not surprised it’s popular though. Festivals are about people coming together through their love of music and song, and creating something magical. Look back to Blur in 2009 – One of the band’s seminal moments – 100,000 people chanting “woo-hoo!” – That is what it’s about.”

Lonsdale is also one of those people who tells you what music is all about, and who thinks that Kanye isn’t one of the biggest names in the music industry right now:

“Glastonbury is an institution. It is expected that it has the biggest names. The biggest performers. Kanye does not represent that.”

So just who does Lonsdale think are big names that would be a suitable alternative? He lists names like Blur, Oasis, Bruce Springsteen, and Greenday. HE THINKS GREEN DAY ARE BIGGER THAN KANYE. SMDH, FOH and various other acronyms he wouldn’t understand.

He isn’t alone in his irrelevant ire though, at the time of writing 20,000– wait, I refreshed my browser and now 25,ooo people have signed the petition named ‘Cancel Kanye West’s headline slot and get a rock band’.  A lot of people voiced their opinions on Twitter too, which you can see in the gallery above.

Ah well, you can take solace in knowing the petition will never amount to anything. Keep it locked to ACCLAIM and we’ll fill you in on how he kills the show.
