It’s the end of an era. Iconic 5 Pointz Aerosol Art Center located in Long Island City, New York is being demolished to make way for two high-rise apartment buildings. Owner of the building David Wolkoff has sold the space which will be filled with over 1000 apartments, despite a strong movement against the decision by the Queens Community Board.
There are currently over 350 murals covering the space, making it a graffiti hub. There is currently discussion over pursuing historic landmark status for the space. In the meantime, it looks like wrecking balls are being scheduled sometime in the near future.
