In yet another wacky German technological experiment, we now have a fully functional robotic system based on an ape. Researchers at the University of Bremen unveiled their four-limbed gizmo that lurches along on its ‘knuckles’ and back feet moving forward, backward, and sideways without any external controls. Amazingly, this isn’t the first animal inspired robot with the Cheetah and the BigDog already making up a rapidly expanding robotic animal kingdom.

Whereas other animal-inspired robots have been created for military or heavy lifting purposes, the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence profess that the the robo-ape could be put to use in the final frontier. Wer’e imagining some serious space battles or a planet of the apes style situation in the International Space Station.
