If you’re a hardcore Apple user, you might be one of those peeps who have always been a bit disappointed with the iPhone interface. There’s nothing terribly wrong with it, especially if you love the product but not enough to want to sleep with it…but even to the layman, the iPhone’s UI could undoubtedly be a bit more functional, particularly as the brand have always prided themselves on the user experience.

Joost van der Ree’s iOS interface concept has been around for a minute now, and though it has had hugely mixed reviews amongst the nerd/Maclot/Wintroll community, the biggest point to be made is that Apple perhaps need to have a better understanding of the way users think and behave, and what, in the user’s mind, is considered functional. On top of that, if Apple’s competitors are well on their way to nailing their UI’s, surely Apple can, too? Given the UI is probably one of the most important elements of the phone, is the Apple name big enough to entice consumers, regardless of whether the user experience is up to scratch?

Apple’s iPhone 5 is rumoured to drop worldwide on September 21.
