It’s creeping up to two years since the release of Kendrick Lamar’s seminal debut album good kid, m.A.A.d city, and it looks like we’re finally getting a follow-up project from the Compton rapper. No, there’s no album talk just yet, we’re still riding on the wave of 2012’s release, with a short film entitled m.A.A.d, to be debuted at the first Sundance NEXT Fest in LA on August 9.

Directed by Kahlil Joseph, whose last music-inspired short for Flying Lotus won Sundance accolades, the 14-minute film will be based around K.Dot’s narrative-heavy album, featuring “a kaleidoscope of storylines and ideas that defy typical categorization to explore new languages and new forms” and a cast of unknowns “plucked from LA corners.” Be sure to check it out if you happen to be local to LA next week, where Kahlil will be speaking and Tinashe will be performing, see event flyer below.
