Global sportswear heavy-weights Adidas slapped Marc Jacobs with a federal trademark infringement lawsuit this week over a line of sweatshirts baring uncanny resemblance to the label’s hallmark triple-striped motif.

Sporting four stripes on each sleeve, a statement from the label has expressed concern that Jacobs’ designs (on right) will ‘deceive, confuse, and mislead purchasers and prospective purchasers into believing that the apparel sold by Marc Jacobs is manufactured by, authorized by, or in some manner associated with Adidas.’

In order to compensate for millions of dollars and several decades invested in the logo’s development and circulation, the label announced via its lawyers it would seek monetary or statutory damages as well as pushing for an injunction to halt the production and sale of the offending sweater.
