Jody Just Releases Debut Collection ‘Candy Flip’

The upcoming Sydney label deliver their first official collection, modelled by some of the city’s brightest creatives

Jody Just is a name that has been on the rise in the Australian fashion scene. Known for his custom cowboy hats, a favourite of US  artist Post Malone, Jody Just has become a regular collaborator, creating some of Malone’s stage-ready custom outfits, including the signature cowboy hat Post donned in his appearance at the 2020 AMAs.

Despite being Sydney based, it was a nightclub in the Lower East Side of New York City that saw the birth of Jody Just back in 2016 by Roman Jody. While living in New York for 5 years, Roman graduated from Parsons as Valedictorian, all the while fostering and curating his label. Returning to his hometown of Sydney in 2019, Jody continued to fortify his label and while the brand has continued to establish its identity in the fashion scene, there is a common theme that has stuck from the very beginning; an authentically underground aesthetic with the edge of New York nightlife and its punk sensibilities.

Last month, Jody Just released the lookbook for its first full collection after years of small capsules and individual drops. ‘Candy Flip’ is a combination of cut-and-sew pieces and bespoke garments that are hand-painted, featuring locally sourced vintage jeans and cowboy hats. The lookbook features a star-studded cast of Sydney creatives including musicians Blessed, Huskii, Nooky, Leng Hock, Dante Knows, Marty Bugatti (Triple One) alongside Kurt Johnson and Harry Barclay. Each custom piece is made to order and is completely freehand, with no stencils, prints or sketches made beforehand.

To celebrate the launch of ‘Candy Flip’, Jody has put together a playlist of tracks that inspired the collection including artists like Arca, Three Six Mafia, Bones and more. Check it out below.

The full Candy Flip collection is available online or during their open studio hours at 65 Sydenham Rd, Marrickville in Sydney Every Friday from 12-7pm. Follow Jody Just here for more.
