So they’re actually doing a modern-day remake of the classic orphan tale Annie, with the first trailer now available to preview, and it doesn’t look terrible. Set in current day New York – the orphanage is located in Harlem – Jamie Foxx stars as Will Stacks (PKA Daddy Warbucks), a mayoral candidate on the come-up, who happens across orphan Annie (Oscar-nominated wunderkind Quvenzhane Wallis) and, well, you know the rest.
So we’re all pretty familiar with the way the story goes but the trailer does give us a teaser of what the 2014 makeover is going to look like. They’ve roped in a pretty stellar cast as well, with Cameron Diaz as the bitchy foster mum and Australia’s Rose Byrne as Stacks’ VP. With a team of producers, including Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Mr ‘Hard Knock Life’ himself, Jay Z, and set for release just before Christmas, there is no way this flick is going to lose.
