Some sad news to start the day–Nintendo have released a statement confirming their president Satoru Iwata has passed away. He was 55.

It had become known that Iwata was suffering from a bile duct growth, which kept him physically away from the most recent E3 conference, but was being treated for the condition. It’s reported he was suffering from the condition for the past year and unfortunately succumbed to the disease over the weekend.

The beloved fourth head of the gaming empire was instrumental in some of Nintendo’s most iconic games, such as Kirby and The Legend of Zelda, and his presence will surely be missed by the gaming community.
