Kick off Leaps and Bounds Festival with a musical showcase by Fortunes and friends, July 1

With musical mates like these, how could you not have the best time?

The fourth annual Leaps and Bounds Music Festival is returning on Friday July 1 and some of our favourite local acts are helping to kick off festivities at Fitzroy’s Night Cat. With sets from Melbourne’s hottest hip-hop and R&B newcomers Fortunes, The Outside Inn, Man Made Mountain and Hightea, you know you’re in for a huge one. If you aren’t familiar with some of these up-and-comers, no need to stress because we’ve already done the research for you.

The kick-ass duo from Melbourne are known for combining R&B-style raw emotion with hip-hop excitement to electronic music. The pairing of Conor McCabe and Barnaby Matthews have quickly become crowd favourites at basically any gig they’ve graced and have even supported the likes of JMSN, Shlohmo, Oddisee, and Vallis Alps. 2016 has been Fortunes’ year, beginning with a killer performance at Let Them Eat Cake to start the new year. With their new Jacket EP receiving a heap of attention, we’re excited about what they’re going to bring to the stage on July 1.

The Outside Inn
If The Outside Inn doesn’t ring a bell, you’re in for a treat. The Melbourne-based collective will not only takeover your playlist, but will also transform your mood for the better with their unique take on the combination of hip-hop, electronic and and neo-soul. “We create what we feel ~ we feel what we create. We hope the Universe smiles on you today.” After listening to their new EP INNTRO, I guarantee you’ll feel motivated to get off your butt and buy a ticket for July 1.

Man Made Mountain
Man Made Mountain is made up of ARIA Award winning producer Billy Hoyle and vocalist Cazeaux O.S.L.O. The duo combine their spiritual connection with the sounds of Brazil and musical inspiration from iconic beatmakers like J Dilla. The duo “create a musical experience that both uplifts and challenges the boundaries of hip-hop.” With another EP set to drop later on in the year, they’re definitely one of the most important hip-hop up-and-comers to watch.

There’s no better way to start the night then to kick it off with the brilliance of HighTea. Another magical pairing of musical inspiration, prepare to be compelled by HighTea’s unique take on neo-soul, hip-hop, R&B, and electronica.

With those headliners, you just know your body and soul will get a workout at the showcase. Needless to say, you need to get in quick before 5pm on Friday July 1 for $10 Early Bird tickets, here.
