Sepp Werkmeister spent a good part of the ’60s and ’70s photographing famous jazz musicians around New York. Between performances, he would find himself running around Harlem, the East Village and Times Square – a perfect opportunity to capture the cityscapes, as well as their decadently dressed inhabitants. The streets are emblazoned with colours and patterns, as women don eye-catching overcoats and men often show off interestingly tailored suits. 90 full-colour photographs taken between 1965-1975 have been compiled into an upcoming book titled New York: Sepp Werkmeister, which is due to be released this month.
